Biography
GRAHAM OSBORNE is an award-winning professional nature photographer and biologist specializing in large-format 4x5 landscape, wildlife, and outdoor lifestyle photography. He has been called a “landscape master” by Outdoor Photographer Magazine, and “one of British Columbia's and Canada's best photographers” by CBC Television and BCTV.
He has published seven books of his personal photography to date, including: Vancouver Wild, Hawaii’s Hidden Paradise, Rainforest, Wildflowers, British Columbia A Wild and Fragile Beauty, and British Columbia: 35 years of Conservation.
Osborne’s breathtaking images have also graced the pages of some of the finest publications in the world, including Sierra Club Calendars, National Geographic Traveler, Audubon, GEO, Natural History, China Geographic and over forty coffee-table books. He was a field correspondent with Equinox Magazine and has worked on assignment with the likes of Nike, Jeep, Sunset Magazine, Air Canada, Outdoor Photographer, Canadian Geographic, Beautiful B.C., corporate ad agencies and many others. His corporate sponsors include Kodak, Fuji and Lens & Shutter.
Osborne’s awards include a Gold Medal in Photojournalism at the 2005 International Regional Magazine Awards (IRMA), a Summit Award (1997 Best Ad Agency Design, North America), and the 1993 SPJ Excellence In Journalism Award for magazine feature photography. He was also nominated for two National Magazine Awards (1994, 1997).

Advanced Pro field Techniques with Graham Osborne
Join professional nature photographer, Graham Osborne, as he leads you in a jam-packed, highly practical session of advanced pro techniques. Featured as a “Landscape Master” by Outdoor Photographer, Osborne has 6 books to his credit and over 25 years of experience as a pro, and will share some of his special techniques that he has developed over the years.
Topics will include:
- creative use of split neutral density filters
- how to work in extreme low light and calculate exposures when the shutter is open for minutes rather than milliseconds
- how to create pro level underwater photography without wetsuits or expensive housings
- how to work with dramatic but difficult light situations [backlight, high contrast scenes and more)
- how to work more effectively in the forest [everything from maximizing color saturation and dealing with long exposures to composition tips that will set your forest shots apart
- how to use various focal lengths of lenses in untraditional ways for creative imagery that is unique and compositionally striking
- field techniques that will help you shoot in difficult weather and tough conditions –and protect today’s more delicate digital cameras
Other topics will include moonlight photography, maximizing depth of field, and creating 4x5 perspective and image quality in a digital world. While geared to those with a good working knowledge of their cameras, this will be a highly practical, information-packed session, and everyone will gain valuable insight into creating powerful, unique imagery, no matter their technical ability or experience.
